Viking Pools Review: Laguna, Cancun, & Caribbean

Swimming Pool Design  |  Fiberglass Pool Information  |  Fiberglass Pool Manufacturers

Are you in the market for a freeform fiberglass pool and looking for the perfect model for your family? We’re here for you!

As manufacturers and installers of inground fiberglass swimming pools, we at River Pools have a unique determination to help homeowners (like you!) to find your perfect pool—whether that means choosing us or not.

You’re awesome—that’s a given—and we want you to have all the information. On top of that, we want you to know you made the right choice as you enjoy your swimming pool for years to come.

Today we’ll review some freeform fiberglass pools from Viking Pools: the Laguna, Cancun, and Caribbean models. At the end, we’ll also show similar models from us, the O Series and the C Series.

We’ll compare the pools in these areas:

  • Size: the model’s length and width
  • Depth: the model’s shallow end and deep end
  • Surface area: the model’s overall square footage
  • Tanning ledge: whether or not the model includes one
  • Perimeter: the length of the model’s outline
  • Weight: the weight of the pool shell itself (no water)

Side note: this information comes from what the pool community calls “dig specs.” Basically it’s your resource to learn the details of what you will (or should) get in the final product. You should be able to find these on the pool manufacturer’s website. If they're unavailable online, ask the manufacturer for them.

Laguna

This model comes in 2 versions: the regular Laguna and the Laguna Deluxe.

These two are roughly the same size—they’re both 14 ft. wide and 30 ft. long. However, the Laguna Deluxe runs 4 inches deeper in the shallow end (4 ft. as opposed to 3 ft. 6 in.).

The Laguna Deluxe also features a fancy, fancy addition: an integrated spa, as well as a longer step and a circular tanning ledge offset from the main pool body. Nice!

You can see that on both models, the curves dip a little into the body of the pool. This adds some dramatic flair but does take away some open swim area.

River Pools alternatives

Those are the stats for Viking Pools' most popular freeform fiberglass pools. Are they the only options in those sizes? Answer: nope.

For comparison, we'll go over the freeform fiberglass pools from River Pools that run in the same dimensions.

O30 model

River Pools’ O Series is available in both 27-ft. and 30-ft. options.

The 30-ft. design is roughly equivalent to Viking Pools’ Laguna model. They’re both 30 feet long (obviously). However, the Laguna is a few inches deeper in the deep end (6 ft. rather than 5 ft. 6 in.) and the O30 is a foot wider (15 ft. rather than 14 ft.).

Depth:
3 ft. 8 in. -  5 ft. 6 in.

Surface area:

Tanning ledge:
yes (large first step)

Perimeter:
80 ft.

Weight:
2,380 lb.

I30 model

River Pools’ I Series is available in both 25-ft. and 30-ft. options.

The 30-ft. design is also in the same vein as Viking Pools’ Laguna model. Both are 14 feet wide by 30 feet long, with a slender, lagoon-like look. However, the I30 model offers multiple entry points and a spacious tanning ledge in addition to its deep-end bench seat.

C35 model

If you want to compare a pool of similar size to Viking Pools’ Cancun, the C35 has the same dimensions (16x35). Unlike the Cancun, though, it includes a tanning ledge.

C40 model

The C40 model is a longer, deeper alternative to its 35-ft. counterpart.

The 40-ft. C Series model is not only longer altogether than the C35, but it’s also almost half a foot deeper in the deep end. And don't worry—it keeps the spacious tanning ledge.

How do they compare?

Notice anything special about those numbers?

Surprise #1: the River Pools models are actually bigger than the Viking Pools models, even though the “size” (i.e., stated width and length) are said to be the same.

The perimeter and surface area show that there’s more usable swim space. Translation? What we say is there is there, as opposed to being cut into by a dramatically curved design.

Surprise #2: simply put, there’s also more to the pool itself. The structure is thicker and sturdier, as shown by the greater weight.
