Have you ever made this statement of your home?
“Geesh, I wish the steps leading to the upstairs were closer to the front door?”
Chances are you haven’t. But notwithstanding, the single biggest design hang-up that folks encounter, especially with fiberglass pools, is the notion that the steps of the pool need to be as close as possible to the entrance of the pool area.
I’m not saying the step location should be ignored entirely because there are absolutely cases where the step location serves a specific design function. However, this is not the case in the majority of pool projects because many other factors have a greater impact on the feel and flow of the space around the pool.
Patio design, patio furniture layout, landscape design, and how the fence works in conjunction with all of the above often play a more important role in the overall design than whether the steps are simply located on the right or left side of the pool.
Fiberglass pools are amazing. They are so easy to maintain it’s ridiculous, the lifetime cost of ownership is far lower than any other pool, they look and feel great, and will last for a very, very long time….BUT, and this is the big but for some people: you cannot customize the shape or design of the pool.
So, if you’re the person hung up on step location ask yourself the following:
Is the step location a critical design aspect of my pool, or do I just think I’ll want it as close as possible to a gate or patio space?
that after installing over 600 fiberglass pools, we have not had a single customer, after the pool was built, mention anything about step location either working or not working well…..not even once. You would think that if the step location were that big of a deal, someone would have brought it up, especially considering that we ask our customers for feedback!
The reality is that for most people, it just doesn’t seem to matter all that much…..but there are things that do matter. Could our energy be better spent there?
