Viking Pools Purchases Trilogy Fiberglass Pools in Major Industry Acquisition

trilogy poolsIn one of the most surprising moves of the fiberglass pool industry of 2011, Viking Fiberglass Pools (Latham Int) has announced today that it has purchased Trilogy Pools, another major fiberglass pool manufacturer.

Trilogy, who is based out of Tennessee, has grown significantly in brand popularity over the past few years, and is well known for their innovative approach to the fiberglass pool industry, especially with their Fusion line.

I spoke today with Ted Baudenstel, president of Trilogy, and he told me he'd be continuing with his normal duties, along with his business partner and staff, and they will all be staying with the company for the long term.

Also, with having more capital now to invest in the company, Baudenstel is excited to continue to innovate the company and industry with new designs, features, and better branding capabilities in general.

Baudentel also said all product warranties would be honored as usual, and will remain the same as well.

As always, we at River Pools and Spas will be staying on top of this story and will be watching the change-over very closely, but as of right now it appears to be a very good move for both companies.

Does this create any concerns in the fiberglass industry as a whole?

So then does that put you back in with Viking? Also I just noticed that you are not with Leisure any longer. How does this affect any warranty that Leisure owners have with them?

Sadly in hard economic times the market has a tendency to eliminate companies that are strugling. I do not know if this is the case for this purchase but it usually is good for both since it staves off the elimination of jobs on a large scale.

Thanks Marcus for bringing me accurate information before any other news sites.

@Josh-- Good question. To be frank, I think less than 5 companies(not including separate lines) will exist within the next 2 years. This isn't the last acquisition. Is this good or bad? I don't know man. Tough call. I have a bunch of theories, so if you're in Vegas this year at the show, maybe we can chat.

@Jim: Hey bud, hope you're doing well. Leisure is a great pool, great products. From a business perspective, it made sense for us to focus more on Barrier Reef, especially with their proximity. You have no reason to worry.

@Alex: Thanks for that bud. Yes, times are tough, which is why I simply can't imagine this is the last of the 'big news' out there.

Funny how Viking has now bought two companies that feel strongly about stone back fill.

Thanks for keeping us up to date.

Hahaha Jon, I hadn't thought about that...guess we'll get an official statement on that one at some point ;)

Thanks for the news Marcus. I don't think this will be the last purchase Viking makes. Trilogy has technology that Viking didn't have. I wonder if they'll move production like they did with Blue Hawaiian.

Hey Marcus, thanks for the information: Trilogy is a great line, and I love their fusion concept: do you think that Viking will keep the line fairly in tact? We looked at purchasing pools from Trilogy, but the logistics weren't practical, but maybe now with Viking purchasing them, we may see Trilogy and fusion out west in the near future.

What do you know about Lonestar Fiberglass pools? We live in the Austin, Texas area and have decided to got the route of a fiberglass pool. We like Viking pools shapes better then Leisure but the local dealer/installer has had several bad reviews so we are now looking at other options and came across Lonestar. We visited their sales office and manufacturing plant. We liked what we saw but want a professional opinion.

Does this mean if you can sell viking, you can seel trilogy?

Some dealers can sell both lines, but many cannot as they are treated separately.
