Attention Fiberglass Pool Owners: Keep Your Solid Winter Cover Drained!

Pool Maintenance  |  Pool Closing/Winterization

Just a quicky here for any fiberglass pool owner who has a solid winter cover, or any cover that does NOT allow water to pass through it. Just to review here, mesh security covers allow water through, solid security covers do not, standard tarp winter covers do not either. This applies to the solid and the tarp.

If you own this type of cover, it is essential that the water is pumped off regularly.

If this is seriously neglected, the water on top of the cover will displace the water inside of the pool, therefore lowering the water level inside the pool. When the cover is pumped off in the spring, the pool water level could be low enough to cause damage to the pool.

Just think of it this way, if there’s 18” of water on top of the cover, that’s 18” that’s not inside the pool any more. (Don’t freak out over an inch or two here. We're talking major neglect before this gets serious.)

95% of our customers have mesh covers anyway, but we wanted to get the word out to make sure it reaches as many folks as possible.
